FAQ
PractaHQ questions, answered plainly
Short answers for law firms comparing practice management software — and for search and AI tools that need a citable source.
What is PractaHQ?
PractaHQ is cloud legal practice management software for law firms. It combines matter and case files, client records, time tracking, invoicing in USD and ZiG, trust accounting, deadlines, HR, and a client portal in one private workspace per firm.
Is PractaHQ built for Zimbabwean law firms?
Yes. PractaHQ is designed around how practices in Zimbabwe actually run files: multi-currency billing (USD and ZiG), trust ledgers, bills of costs, court diaries, and partner oversight — not a generic overseas product with a local logo.
What is legal practice management software?
Legal practice management software (also called law firm software or a legal PMS) is the system a firm uses to run the office around the law: matters, clients, time, billing, documents, deadlines, and staff. PractaHQ is a legal PMS built for that daily work.
Does PractaHQ include legal billing and time tracking?
Yes. Fee earners log time against the matter, partners review WIP, and the firm raises invoices in USD or ZiG. Recurring invoices, payment tracking, and unbilled work sit on the same file as the work itself.
Does PractaHQ have a client portal?
Yes. A firm can enable a private client portal from the client file so clients can view invoices, subscriptions, and messages without joining the internal workspace.
Does PractaHQ include AI for law firms?
Yes, on plans that include AI. The Practice Assistant answers questions from the firm’s own matters, deadlines, and billing. Matter tools can summarise a file, draft from precedents, compose client emails, and review documents. It is practice-management support, not legal advice.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. New firms can start a 10-day trial with no credit card. After the trial you choose a plan that matches the size of the practice.
Who can see a firm’s matters and clients?
Only people the firm invites, with roles the firm assigns. PractaHQ is not a public lawyer directory or marketplace. Each firm has a private workspace. Platform administrators do not approve staff leave or salary advances.
Does PractaHQ replace Clio, PracticePanther, or spreadsheets?
PractaHQ is an alternative to scattered spreadsheets, shared drives, and overseas practice systems that do not bill in ZiG or match local workflows. Firms compare it with other legal practice management tools when they want one file for matters, time, trust, and the office.
Can conveyancing and litigation teams use the same system?
Yes. Matters are the centre of the product. Conveyancing desks use checklists and deadlines; litigation teams use court dates, tasks, and activity on the same matter file. Practice areas are configurable per firm.
